Independence day

I’m appealing for your vote on May 6th, so I’m delighted to have the chance to explain why I’m standing – and why I’m worthy of your vote.

The reason I decided to stand as an Independent was due to feeling that this election seemed like ‘groundhog day’. Lots of promises but very little prospect for real change to the political landscape other than the usual pendulum swing from one main party to another.

The one time I really saw a change was in 1997-2001, when Tatton showed the UK it was full of independently-minded people by voting in Martin Bell. He was Independent and influential and his backing for my campaign means a great deal to me and I hope to you too. I was one of his many supporters and I got to know him well. I admired his ethos, the way in which he championed local issues and how he worked as a highly popular, representative and effective constituency MP.
